Taylor funeral home of Gibson announces the death and services of Mr. Patrick Lawrence Booton, age 65, of 1357 Old Mitchell Road Gibson, GA, formerly of Savannah, who died Saturday, July 16, 2016 in the University Hospital Augusta.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Wednesday, July 20, at Fellowship Baptist Church in Gibson with Rev. Tommy Harwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Greg Bowles, Lamar Dixon, George David, Steve Seymour, James Stevens and Evan Sullivan.  Cycling friends will be honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Booton was born in Gastonia NC, and was the son of the late Earnest A. Booton and Hazel Deaton Booton. He graduated from George P. Butler High School in Augusta and served in the U. S. Army Reserves during the Vietnam era. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Medicine from the Medical College of Georgia and a Master’s degree in Medical Physics from Emory University. He retired from Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah after 25 years as a Medical Physicist.  He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

Patrick had many hobbies including weight lifting, running, sailing, cycling, woodworking, hunting and raising Nigerian Dwarf goats.  In the 1980’s Patrick was a member of the Savannah Yacht Club and the Geechee Sailing Club. He won many trophies sailing in the Wilmington River, in the Atlantic Ocean and in the ocean sounds of Savannah and Hilton Head Island.

Patrick later became interested in cycling and joined the Coastal Bicycle Touring Club. He enjoyed road biking and founded a charitable bicycle ride from Savannah to Augusta to benefit children and families with cancer.

Patrick was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Danny Booton and is survived by his wife, LaVerne Mathis Booton, of Gibson; daughter, Allyson Madden (John) of Martinez; son, Ian Booton of Gibson; grandsons, Seth Birong & Elijah Madden; sisters, Linda Norby (Billy) of Hardeeville, SC; Elizabeth Sullivan (Ryan) of Evans; nieces, Katherine Norby and Maryellen Thompson; nephews, Evan Sullivan, and Nolan Sullivan. 

The family will be at the home of Henry and Wilma Mathis.

Visitation will be prior to service from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the church and following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Patrick’s Ride, Memorial Health Foundation, P.O. Box 23089 Savannah, GA 31403 or to  Fellowship Baptist Church building fund, P.O. Box 25 Gibson, GA 30810
