Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death and funeral services of Mr. Thomas Edward “Tom” Armistead, age 74 of Highway 17, South, Louisville, Georgia, who died Thursday morning, August 11, 2016 in the Doctors Hospital, Augusta.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, August 14, 2016 in the Louisville United Methodist Church with Dr. William “Bill” Daniel, Rev. Garland Hullender and Rev. David Boggs officiating. Burial will follow in the Louisville City Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be:  Kevin Harris, Todd Armistead, David Armistead, Andy Cobb, Jimmy Fleming, David Gunn, Barry Bryant and Steve Pennington.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the present and former Louisville Fire Department members and the Buddy Carroll Sunday School Class.

Born in Augusta, Georgia, Mr. Armistead was a son of the late Colley Dacus Armistead and Mary Bowles Armistead.  Tom was a graduate of Richmond Academy and received his Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from the University of Georgia in 1964. He had owned Jefferson Pharmacy and was a Pharmacists with Barney’s Pharmacy. He was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church for 47 years where he was an active member and teacher of the Buddy Carroll Sunday school class and a Lay Speaker, Sunday school teacher at Jefferson County Correctional Institute, and a member of the Kairos Prison Ministry. Tom retired after 25 years of service from the Louisville Volunteer Fire Department as Assistant Chief, was a former member of Jefferson Hospital Authority, a former member and past President of the Louisville Kiwanis Club, former member of the Jefferson County Library Board, member of the Committee to establish Thomas Jefferson Academy, founding member of Woodlawn Hunting Club, and past president of the Louisville Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Armistead is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Anne J. Armistead of Louisville; daughters, Amy (Mike) Sasser of Waynesboro and Cara (Michael) Cobb of Louisville; grandsons, Daniel (Emily) Sasser and Alan Sasser of Waynesboro; granddaughters, Allison Cobb of Nashville, TN and Sydney Cobb of Louisville; great grandchildren, Halle and Jack Sasser of Waynesboro; brothers, Frank (Shirley) Armistead of Cumming and Joel (Eileen) Armistead of Lilburn; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

The Armistead family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 PM Saturday, August 13, 2016 in the Louisville United Methodist Church.
