Virgie Kitchens

Taylor Funeral Home of Gibson announces the death and funeral services of Mr. Virgie Kitchens, age 99 of Edgehill Mitchell Road, Mitchell, GA, who died Tuesday, June 28, 2016 in the University Hospital, Augusta.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, July 1, 2016 in Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church, Mitchell, GA with Rev. Al Kurtz and Rev. Don Black officiating. Mr. Kitchens will lie in state one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Pallbearers will be:  Ralph Kelley, Craig Reese, Phil Raley, Bill Raley, Jimmy Newsome and Philip Raley.

A native of Edgehill, Virgie was a son of the late Lewis Kitchens and Tossie Marsh Kitchens. He retired with the Civil Service at Fort Gordon where he was a supervisor, was a farmer and electrician and a member of Mt. Zion Congregation Methodist Church.

Virgie is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Louise Redfern Kitchens, daughter, Catherine Kitchens Kelley and 5 siblings and is survived by daughter, Ann Kitchens Jackson of Mitchell, grandchildren, Gregg Kelley and Renae of Gibson, Scott Kelley and Paula of Mitchell, Anthony Kelley and Jodi of Edgehill, great grandchildren, Bayne Kelley, David Kelley, Nolan Kelley, Catherine Kelley and Jolee Kelley.

The Kitchens family will receive friends Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
