Taylor Funeral Home of Gibson announces the death and services of Mr. William Stewart, Jr. (Junior), 81 of Warrenton, Ga., who died April 27, 2017 in the Augusta University Medical Center.

Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 6, 2017 in the Gibson First Baptist Church on Main Street in Gibson with Rev. Dean Watson officiating.  Burial will be in the family lot of Sweet Water Baptist Church in Thomson.  The Stewart family will receive friends following the service Saturday.

He was born May 9, 1935 in Thomson, Ga., the son of the late William Eli Stewart and Pauline Smith Stewart, both of Thomson, Ga.  Junior earned his GED serving in Air Force from 1952-1972.  He retired after 20 years of service as a fireman for the United States Air Force.  He traveled the world to areas including England, Spain, Korea, Mississippi, Massachusetts, New York, Louisiana and Georgia.  Junior was a lifetime member of the VFW.  After retirement, he settled in Mitchell, Ga., where he opened a country store at Five Points near Gibson, Mitchell and Warrenton.  He became a substitute mail carrier and then a full-time mail carrier in Mitchell, where he retired from the Civil Service after many years.  He enjoyed getting to know his postal customers.  He also enjoyed good times with his friends. He loved fishing, cooking out, gardening, road trips, eating out, camping and grilling as well as being a mail carrier.  He also loved building up his small store to a community store, barbecue and hangout at Five points.  He cooked on Wednesday nights for the community at his bar called “Junior’s Place”.  Junior would want to be remembered as always loving life, his laughter, and for having good times with his friends.  He enjoyed life to the fullest and would not want anyone mourning his passing.  He was a loving father to his three girls.

Junior is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James Eli Stewart and Eugene (Gene) Stewart and one grandson, Justin Hutcherson and is survived by his wife, Gonnie Eulaween Stewart; daughters, Pauline Stewart James of Thomson, Elaine Stewart Merritt (Rusty) of Mitchell and Gail Stewart Hutcherson, of Thomson; sisters, Nell Stewart Downs of Mitchell and Cathryn Stewart Skelton of Fairview, TN and Shelly Seville, his best friend and caretaker of Warrenton; 7 living grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
