Taylor Funeral Home of Gibson announces the death and funeral services of Mrs. Alvalene McKenzie Perry who entered the presence of God on November 16, 2022. Alvalene was 68 years old when she passed away at Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. Alvalene was surrounded by her children when the Lord carried her as she passed from this life to her eternal home. Our hearts are heavy beyond measure this day, but we have been assured by the Lord and our parents that we will be together again as the Lord is yet to come.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday November 19, 2022, in the Sheppard Memorial Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Gibson with Rev. Rev. Jason Burton officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell City Cemetery.
Alvalene was a native of Eastern Kentucky and a longtime resident of Glascock County, Georgia. She retired from working as an Emergency Medical Technician after sustaining an injury on the job. Alvalene also worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant, but the job she loved the most, was working as a Scrub Tech at Washington Regional Medical Center.
She was born to the late Willard and Pearl Smith McKenzie of Lawrence County, Kentucky. She was the fifth child of seven. She was raised to love the Lord and her family. Tom and Alvalene would go on to pass these characteristics, to their four children and many grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, Thomas Howard Perry. Her brothers Donald McKenzie, William “Bill” Mckenzie, and Ranzel McKenzie.
She is survived by her sisters, Annie Watts, Wilma Jean Chapman (Nickie), Peggy Bowen (David), and brother Carl McKenzie. She is also survived and celebrated by her best friends Patricia Cathcart and Nancy Anne May.
Left to honor her memory are her children Starla Dawn Allen (Bill), Vernon Rex Perry (Valarie), Steven Thomas Perry (Stacey) and Jason Scott Perry (Katherine).
Also, honoring her memory are her many loving grandchildren. Casey Gunby-Parijs (Brandon), Christopher “Aaron” Gunby (Cecily), Kylee Perry-Rogers (Corey), McKenzie Perry, Nathan Perry, Kole Perry, Jocelyn Perry, and Karson Perry, Emily Perry, Jeremy Perry, Seth Perry. She has four beautiful great grandchildren which she cherished beyond measure, Kye Perry, Logan Gunby, Raley Rose Perry, and Wyatt Gunby.
We would also like to express our sincerest thank you to the Nurse’s, PTCS, Nutrition and Housekeeping staff that cared for Alvalene and us on the 2nd floor at Doctor’s Hospital. We would like to make a special mention of Mindy, Sameera, Grace, Leia Egerson, and many other nurses and MST’s who made Mom comfortable, and a special thank to the Agape Hospice Nurses for their loving care.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 18, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
