Betty Goodwin Obituary

Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death and funeral services of Mrs. Betty Sue Goodwin, age 95, of Louisville who died Sunday, March 5, 2023, at Pruitt Health – Old Capitol, Louisville, GA.

Memorial services to honor her life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 10, 2023, in the Louisville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Underwood, officiating. Burial will be held privately in the Louisville City Cemetery.

Betty Sue was born in Bartow, GA on January 1, 1928, the youngest child of Platt River and Alma Williams Brown. She worked for several years at the Louisville Shirt Company before starting her own sewing and alterations business – nearly everyone in town benefitted from her sewing talents for she was the premier seamstress in Louisville, Georgia. People who met her as customers quickly became forever friends.

Betty Sue was a long-time faithful member of the Louisville First United Methodist Church. She spent her life supporting her church in many ways: she lent her beautiful singing voice to the choir, she baked fruitcakes and pound cakes for fundraisers, and as a member of the church’s Sunshine Committee, she planned, cooked, and served meals for grieving family members of the church.  Her most notable contribution to her church were the hundreds of Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls that she sewed by hand and sold to support the Building Fund. Her beautiful creations are heirlooms and are loved by children and adults all over the world with each having the hand stitched “I love you” over their heart. Betty Sue was a godly woman who loved her family, her church family, and every furry animal that had the fortune of crossing her path. She will always remain a model of Christian selflessness, hard work, service, kindness and empathy for her family and community.

Betty Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Donald G. Goodwin, Sr., a son, Daniel Comer Goodwin, sisters Evelyn Brown, Lucille Thomas, Rubye Thomas, Agnes Sykes, and Grace Livesay, brothers Platt River “Buddy” Brown, Jr., and William Brown. She is survived by her children: Donald G. Goodwin, Jr. of Martinez, GA,  Frances “Cissy” Lamb of Gray, GA, and Susan and Jim Darden of Watkinsville, GA; grandchildren: Duke Miller of Atlanta, GA and Nicole and Leon Pellicer of San Diego, CA; great grandchildren:  Kai Deuley of Milledgeville, GA and Mila, Ari Bella and Georgia Pellicer of San Diego, CA; her best friend, partner-in-crime and honorary daughter, Jane Jones, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.

The Goodwin family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday evening March 9, 2023, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made in her memory to the Louisville First United Methodist Church, 301 W 7th St, Louisville, GA 30434, or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, PO Box 37920, Boone IA 50037-0920 or www2.jdrf.org.
