Betty W. Smith

Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death and funeral services of Mrs. Betty W. Smith, age 86, of Louisville who died Tuesday, January 26, 2021, in the Jefferson Hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2021, in Louisville City Cemetery with Rev. Johnathan Melchior and Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating.  Because of the family’s concern for public health and safety during this pandemic, the family requests that social distancing and other safety precautions be followed. A native of Sparta, Georgia, Betty was the daughter of the late Truman Wells and Ellen Swint Wells.  She retired after many years of service as the human resource manager at Forstmann (formerly J. P. Stevens).  Betty was a long-time member of Louisville First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of WMU, the Philathea Sunday School class, and the choir.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (George Thomas Sr.), 5 siblings (Neal Wells, Sterling Wells, Ed Wells, Ralph Wells, and Inez Whaley).  She is survived by 2 daughters (Vicki Smith of Albany, GA and Pat & Clark Nelson of Moultrie, GA) and 2 sons (Tommy Smith of Louisville and Keith & Karen Smith of Raleigh, NC), 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in the name of Betty Smith may be made to the Louisville First Baptist Church, 101 East 9th Street, Louisville, GA 30434.
