F. Taylor Noggle, Jr. Obituary

F. Taylor Noggle, Jr., dedicated follower of Jesus Christ and His Word, beloved mentor, treasured friend, and cherished husband, father, and grandfather, died on July 16, 2021, after a brief and aggressive bout with pancreatic cancer. Taylor was born in Augusta, Georgia, on August 17, 1945. He grew up playing most sports, was scouted by major league baseball while in high school, and he could be found in a fishing boat or hunting with his dad the remainder of the time. He remained an avid fisherman and hunter especially looking forward to turkey season and spending time with his friends in the Turkey Breakfast Club.

Taylor attended the University of Georgia, later transferring to Georgia Southern University graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia where he served two-years with the United States Army Criminal Investigation Laboratory, was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service, and establishing a lifelong career in Forensic Sciences. He later received his Master of Science Degree from Auburn University of Montgomery in 1977. He joined the Alabama Department of Toxicology and Criminal Investigation in January 1971, later to be known as the Alabama Department of Forensics Sciences, where he went on to have a 35-year long career.

He held many positions while employed with the department but worked primarily as a Drug Chemist. Also, while at the department Taylor was an adjunct faculty member with the Auburn University School of Pharmacy conducting research into clandestine drugs, drug identification and jointly publishing over 90 articles in various scientific publications. He also held several administrative positions with ADFS and was appointed the Director by Attorney General Bill Pryor in December 2002. He served in this position until his retirement in October 2006. In April 2012, both houses of the Alabama Legislature unanimously approved the Auburn Laboratory of the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences would be known as the F. Taylor Noggle, Jr. Laboratory in honor of and in appreciation for his distinguished service, leadership and mentoring of young scientists who began their careers in his clandestine drug training laboratory. Many of his young scientists have gone on to be leaders in the Department of Forensic Sciences as well as other national and state organizations. Although he was born a Georgia boy, he bled orange and blue for the Auburn Tigers.

Taylor leaves behind his wife of 53-years, Teresa, son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Jennifer and granddaughter Kara Lynn, his daughter Amy, and his sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Franklin Allen. He was preceded in death by his father Fred Taylor Noggle, Sr. and his mother Carolyn Carr Noggle.
