Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death and services of Merlyn G. Jones, age 95 of Louisville who passed peacefully on Saturday August 26, 2023, at Piedmont Hospital Augusta with her daughter Marilyn and son-in-law Kraig holding her hand.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday September 2, in the Louisville City Cemetery. with Dr. Bill Cain officiating. Pallbearers will be Tommy Jones, A.P. Jones, Walter Jones, Johnny Jones, Mike Brantley, James Brantley.
Merlyn was a daughter of the late Jarrett Nathaniel Green and Lola Viola Faucett Green of Wadley. She was a lifelong member of Louisville Presbyterian Church, where she served as the Sunday School teacher of the primary class. Merlyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 77 years Harry F. Jones, brother, James N. Green, and sisters, Rheba G. Leaptrott, Imogene G. Head and Wilda G. Gordy. She is survived by her sisters Doris G. Sylvester, Juanita G. Brantley, and Bernice G. Cloy, along with her four daughters Patricia Johnson (Gene), Terry Jones, Pam Kirby (Skip), and Marilyn Wangsnes (Kraig). Merlyn was blessed with seven grandchildren Gene (Christi), Patrice (Mike), Caroline, Kirby (Kelly), Kristen, Jarrett and Wyatt, and four great-grandchildren Natalie, Emily, Reece and Gwendolyn.
Merlyn’s life was a living example of her favorite bible verse, Ephesians 4:32- “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, truly the matriarch of our family and a source of strength to us all. She was beautiful inside and out and full of grace.
Regardless of the title she held as mom, mother, ma mama, granny, or Gigi, we will all miss her and the legacy and example she left us. While she held many titles throughout her life, there was none more special than that of her late husband, Harry Jones, who lovingly referred to her simply as “Oui”. As the Roman Poet Ovid once stated, “If you want to be loved, be lovable.” Oui was the quintessential Southern Belle who personified love to all who knew her. If you were privileged enough to call her “Oui” then you knew her, and to know her was to love her and be loved by her.
A smile was her natural expression, and she was capable of finding joy even in the midst of hardships and sorrow. She was the example of a true Proverbs 31 lady, full of wisdom and kindness, but she carried herself with strength, confidence, and in the fear of the Lord.
The family will receive friends 9:30 to 10:30 AM Saturday prior to the services at the Funeral Home
