Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death and funeral services of Sara Florence Holbrook Irby, of Louisville, who died at her home Sunday, February 18, 2024.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2024, in the Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home, Louisville, with Rev. Bill (Buck) Thigpen officiating. Pallbearers will be Doug Irby, Frankie Sheppard, Brian Irby, Stone Logan, Troy Williford, Christopher Cash, Colby Harrell, and Gene Holbrook.
Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Avera.
A native of Madison, South Carolina, Mrs. Irby was a daughter of Pink Clayborn Holbrook and Ollie Mae Cooper. After working as a seamstress at Louisville Shirt Factory, she retired from working as an inspector at J. P. Stevens. Florence was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was an excellent quilter, gardener, and biscuit-maker. She was a member of the Nazarene Church.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Grady Irby; a son, Thomas Grady Irby; a daughter, Shelba Jean Irby Reeves; a brother, Eugene Holbrook, sisters Martha (Mot) H. Lamb, Lois H. Thigpen, and Ann H. Salter; and daughter-in-law Linda Ann Frey Irby. She is survived by a son, Pinky Irby (Pam) of Louisville; brothers P.C. Holbrook (Lynn) of Thomson, Roy Holbrook (Sarah) of Louisville, Charles Holbrook (Gail) of Thomson; and sisters Helen H. Williford of Gibson, Dorothy H. Kirby of Swainsboro, Christine H. Cash (Gus) of Stellaville, and Wilma H. Tawney (Mickey) of Wrens; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
The Irby Family will receive friends Tuesday, February 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville.
