Wiley Evans Obituary

Taylor Funeral Home announces the death and funeral services of Wiley Clark Evans, III, of Bartow, who departed this life at Jefferson Hospital in Louisville on Saturday, July 9.  Funeral services will be at the graveside on Tuesday, July 12, at 11 am in the Brinson Family Cemetery located at the intersection of the Swainsboro-Canoochee Road and Brinson Cemetery Road, near Canoochee.  He will be interred with his beloved wife of 49 years Elaine Brinson Evans, who predeceased him in 2016.  Active pallbearers will be Robert Warthen Evans, William Arthur Cooper, Charles Daryl Morris, Clayton Richard Hodges, and Kevin Vance Hodges, all of Bartow, and Robert Dwayne Morris, of Graniteville, SC.

 

    A visitation will be held on Monday night, July 11, from 6-8 p.m. at the Bartow Methodist Church; all friends and family are cordially invited to attend.

 

    A lifelong Bartow resident, Evans was the son of the late Mary Francis and Wiley Clark Evans, Jr., of Bartow.  After graduating from the Jefferson County public school system, he attended Georgia Military College in Milledgeville.  He then completed his college career at the University of Georgia in Athens where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon social fraternity and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

 

      Following graduation, he returned home and began a career in agribusiness and in service to his community and state, with a ready smile and kind word for all.  For 45 years, he served as a director of the Pineland Telephone Company.  He also served on the Board of Directors for the Bank of Wadley and Queensborough Bank in Louisville.  He was an active volunteer in the Bartow Fire Department and the Georgia National Guard.  He was also an active, devoted member of the Bartow Methodist Church, where he served on numerous committees.

 

        He is survived by his sons, Wiley Clark (Chip) Evans IV, and his wife Gwen, and Matthew Brinson Evans and his wife Terrie, all of Bartow, and his daughter Paula Francis Evans Stallings and her husband Randy, of Douglas, GA, his grandchildren Wiley Clark Evans V, Anlee Ray Evans, William Charles Hendricks, Jr., Matthew Brinson Evans, Jr., and Hampton Wiley Evans, all of Bartow, and Henry Lane Stallings and Joseph Brinson Stallings, of Douglas, GA.  Other survivors include his sister Jean Evans Dupree, of Swainsboro, sister-in-law, Judith P. Brinson, of Alpharetta and nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
